How To Record and Share a PPT Presentation with PowerPoint itself

Now, you’re working from home and need to share your very documented Powerpoint presentation with your team (and other teams!). You can do it wonderfully by recording it as if you were in a meeting – this way you make sure the right ideas and perspective are put out and everybody has access to your standpoint. You can be professional even if you’re away from the office!

How can you record a PPT presentation with audio & video? 

There are generally three ways of doing it: 

• Record narration over your PPT presentation in PowerPoint itself
• Use screen recording software to capture your slides and a voice over
• Use a conference call tool to record your slides as you present them

Microsoft PowerPoint allows you to save PowerPoint as video in Windows Media Video (.wmv) file format. If you’re planning to record audio, your computer must be equipped with a sound card, microphone, and speakers. It’s not that complicated to record directly with sound from the Powerpoint software program. 

Select your microphone in the recording options. The microphone button controls whether or not audio is recorded as part of your presentation. Use the webcam attached to your computer to record yourself (or anything that’s in front of your laptop camera) during the presentation. This video clip can then be used as a Picture-in-Picture clip, perfect for showing the presenter during the presentation.

1. Use video preview to make sure everything is set up correctly before recording.
2. Create your PowerPoint presentation as normal and save it.
3. If you’re using narration for your presentation, record the narration and add timings to the slideshow.
4. File menu – Save & Send
5. Save & Send menu – Create a Video
6. Computer & HD Displays – edit the video size and quality 
7. If you haven’t recorded timed narration, by default the value spent on each slide is 5 seconds.
8. Use Recorded Timings and Narrations if you want to use this option
9. Create Video  – Enter appropriate filename and location to save your newly created video.
10. If it’s possible that your audience may use PowerPoint for web to experience the recording, use the transitions that are supported by PowerPoint for the web (Cut, Fade, Push, Wipe, Split, Random Bars, Shape, Morph).

Once the video recording is complete, you can easily share via Facebook, Youtube, Vimeo or email.

A good thing to know is that recordings are added to the presentation per-slide. You can rearrange the order of slides after recording without having to re-record anything and you can pause for a break while recording a presentation.

Powerpoint doesn’t record during the transition between slides – include a brief silence buffer at the beginning and the end of each slide to make sure the transitions are smooth.

However, if you want a more professional-looking video, consider using an external web cam, – if you’re using PowerPoint on a tablet or laptop and you’re inking with a stylus, an external camera and microphone allows you to cut off stylus noise.
